In the early morning of August 19, 2023, more than 100 peasant families, led by the Liga dos Camponeses Pobres [League of Poor Peasants – LCP] of Norte de Minas and Sur da Bahia, recovered the lands of the Lagoa dos Portácios Hacienda with 6,800 hectares of land abandoned for more than 20 years by the Calsete mining company, in the municipality of Carinhanha (BA). The families denounce several attempts at intimidation by the landlords, who act in collusion with the Military Police [PM] in the repression of the struggling peasants.

Peasant families stand firm resisting threats, lies and blackmail
